Tunnel Ball

Tunnel Ball on a wave-and-dash site is a study in stripped-down pressure. There is a ball, there is a tube, there are obstacles — and that is the entire game. No power-ups, no levels, no story. The question it asks is pure: how long can your hands keep up before the speed outpaces them?

The mechanic is one input. You steer the ball left and right inside a tunnel while it rolls forward on its own. Obstacles materialize on the walls, the floor, the ceiling, and your job is to be somewhere else when they arrive. Early on, the pace is forgiving enough to let you read each hazard and react. Then the ball decides it is done being patient, and the same obstacles that felt manageable now arrive faster than you can think about them.

What I find compelling is how the tunnel shape turns dodging into a geometry problem rather than an open-field evasion. You cannot flee — the tube contains you. Every dodge is a choice about which small slice of space is safe right now, and that slice shrinks as the speed climbs. A clean run through a fast section feels like threading a needle that keeps getting smaller.

The retry loop is instant, which is dangerous. Die, restart, die again, restart again. The game does not punish failure with downtime, so there is no friction between you and the next attempt. That is how a five-minute session becomes forty.

Steer the ball left and right inside the tunnel to avoid obstacles that appear on the surfaces. The ball accelerates continuously, so the longer you survive, the less time you have to react.

Let the early pace teach you. The slow section is a tutorial for hazard types. Learn their shapes before the speed hides them.

Stop gripping the controls so hard. Tension slows reactions. The fast sections reward loose, relaxed steering.
